I'd say that A History of Violence is one of the better films of the year, but that's not saying much at this point. It worked as a study of identity, and the action scenes were much better than one would expect when watching a drama. And Viggo's performance was very believable and quite distinct from his role in Lord of the Rings. Still, not quite everything seemed to gel. Some of the early scenes with the son felt cliched for example. Good, but not great. The Fly is still Cronenberg's best in my opinion.

I saw this movie and I liked it. I liked the sex scenes only cause sex and violence are two emotions that sometimes go together so it's only natural for a great director like Cronenberg to beautifully mend them together.
