Even though practically all of their great color-comics monsters were developed for & came from the pages of Marvel Horror Anthologies, the core anthology stories never really grabbed me nor did the covers, with a few exceptions. Try they did though to compete with the gorgeous stuff DC was putting out. I think Marvel just sort of failed.

As uninspiring as Marvel was during the 60's & 70's with their regular format, color anthology horror comics, their B&W magazine department, under the Curtis flag was just doing incredible things with supernatural themes. Both with covers & content Marvel hit a high-water mark with horror under the Curtis Banner that's never been equaled.

ok, another quick Segue for an entry before we mop-up with the more modern takes on horror covers. Of course we can't explore exceptional horror comic covers w/o mentioning & celebrating the things EC comics was doing in the 50's with their 3 big horror books. Vault of Horror, Tales From the Crypt & Haunt of Fear are probably the most celebrated horror comics to have ever been published. Amazing covers with equally amazing & disturbing stories almost brought down an industry creating such a comic book backlash. Here are 8 of the greats. -

Some Modern Horror covers.

From The Horror In The Dark #2. Corben

Dark Horse' Creepy. Also Corben

Dark Horse' ongoing Harrow County, which I hear is really good.

Ferals, which I read. Over the top but kinda fun.
