He's literally one of the most powerful beings in the MU, his power is based on the universe and he was created by the World Eater Galactus. He's also been a part of some of the biggest MU crossovers dealing with the end of everything.

I mean if I break down Superman into, "A guy flying around in a blue unitard and a red cape" he sounds pretty silly too.

I see what you’re saying. He’s not really naked though, there is a bald human looking guy underneath the silver stuff. The simplicity in his design is what makes him visually appealing to me. The way he flies around space on a board and not like Superman is also pretty inspired. There’s very few powerhouse characters that I like and the Surfer is one of them.

I wouldn't worry about the paint on this guy -- this maquette is probably just a herald of some bigger and better maquette in the future. But what that might be is anyone's guess.

The concept of this character was amazing when he came out and still is. He was a scout for a power that ate planets . He moved on a surf board . It’s just cool man!
