I just don't see the comparison. There is a fundamental difference between the way SSC and XM does business. Does SSC guarantee an ES of less than 1000 on all of their merch? Does SSC have the exacting QC that XM does? Does SSC guarantee full casts on all of their statues? Lastly, as far as price is concerned, XM's retail prices aren't that much more than SSC's considering what you are getting. International shipping is the only thing that kills most collectors outside XM's territories (or having to buy XM merch in the aftermarket). There essentially is no roll of the dice with XM. What you see from the proto is what you get when you receive your statue.
SSC is a whole other animal. High ES, hollow casts, and a roll of the dice on paint apps and QC. None of us can state with any degree of certainty that any of our PO's with SSC will end up looking like the proto pics we were shown. We PO, we hope, and we pray because that is SSC's reputation based on the quality of the product we have received from them over the years.
The last SSC piece I received was the EX Lobo PF. That turned out to be a fabulous statue in every way. We all know SSC is fully capable of releasing incredible statues. However, their history of late only offers more of the same. Rising prices, questionable QC, hollow casts, and high edition sizes.
All that said, IF SSC can come close to nailing the paint apps of the proto on Sonja...I don't think anyone who orders this piece will be fretting about the price tag. Lobo got bashed on the price point but all you really see is incredible reviews after he was released from owners who were thrilled to own such an AWESOME looking piece. I truly believe SSC's pricing isn't the bigger issue with collectors. I believe collectors just want the certainty of knowing that after they plunk down their hard earned money, they are going to get what they ordered. It is the killer combination of rapidly rising prices and questionable QC that has collectors up in arms.
