Poor Nick Fury? The "White" version appeared back in 1963. You're talking about almost 40 YEARS as a white dude until Mr. Mark Millar created the "Black" version in 2001.

This is correct.
I wanted an African-American Nick Fury to be director of SHIELD because the closest thing in the real world to this job title was held by Colin Powell at the time. I also thought Nick Fury sounded like one of those great, 1970s Blaxploitation names and so the whole thing coalesced for me into a very specific character, an update of the cool American super-spy Jim Steranko had done in the 70s and based on the Rat Pack, which seemed very nineteen sixties and due for some kind of upgrade.

I'm fine with a black dude being the head of shield, but don't friggin call him Nick Fury. Make a new damn director, that's the crap those of us that complain hate. Just black facing an existing character shouldn't be an acceptable "update" to them no more than Whitewashing Luke Cage would be an acceptable update to him.

The head of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the books is a "new damn director". It's not the same Nick Fury.

You are familiar with the concept of alternate universes right?
Marvel and DC have built event stories around them since the beginning.

it doesnt bother me in essence to see an African-American, or any other race, depicted as a "white" character. what does bother me is the lack of effort in creating diverse characters. i keep seeing corporate types use the excuse of our world is diverse as some sort of justification for these types of changes, and making them seem socially responsible. thats true in some regards. the fact is though that changes like this are driven by profits in an effort to gain revenue from segments of the population that dont currently relate to their products. what i do find bothersome is the idea of corporate folks sitting around a boardroom with a portfolio of their long running concepts discussing "who can we make black"..or "who can we make Hispanic" for the sake of big money. If not the case, there would be a real effort to create and develope some truly diverse characters...just my opinion though.

Anyone else hear the rumor that the new female Electro is in Homecoming? Guy at my LCS, who is annoyingly regarded as an infallible font of all knowledge, was adamant that it is happening and confirmed.
I called BS and couldn't find a lick of information in this regard myself.

All I care about is Venom being the main villain in one of the sequels.
