Here you go, you can also see some of the flaking on my otherwise incredible Thing bust...

Very nice work JDH! You know, despite the flaking, that Thing bust is great. Really does justice to the comics version. Have you considered getting it repainted? I've heard some people have had it done professionally.
Also, how did you go about touching up Spidey's eyes? Did you peel off the reflective stickers and then paint it white with gouache paint? Or did you just paint over the stickers?

The Thing is an entirely other story however. Just like everyone else who owns one, my Thing has the same paint defect. It arrived mint but one afternoon as I was dusting the paint began flaking. I was damn close to tears! It's all good though - I'm having both this bust and the Ross Hulk repainted.

I don't own the Silver Surfer and I missed out on Ironman. I sort of slept on both and I'm kicking myself now. I have no interest in Thor nor the UD Venom because I think the SS Venom is the end-all-be-all of Venom sculpts out there.

Just to throw in my 2 cents ... I think the DF Thing is a much nicer sculpt than Sideshow's Thing. It's incredibly faithful to Byrne's work on the Fantastic Four. I also prefer the DF Spidey over the SS McFarlenesque Spidey ... and I'm a fan of McFarlane's work.

I think the DF busts are a little under appreciated - I don't really ever see much discussion regarding them. I mean, you had Alex Ross designing them and Mike Hill sculpting ... how could you go wrong there (aside from the craptacular paint apps).
I agree, I think the busts for the most part are executed really well from paper to sculpture.
The Thing really looks nice, I'd still like to buy one.
If you've seen the pics I posted, I have Hulk, both UD and SS Spideys, Thor, Wolvie, and Doom.
I'm looking at getting Thing and Goblin and Surfer. I don't know about Iron Man, if that opportunity comes at a good price then I'll pick him up too.
But I kind of want to hold back because I really want to buy the new upcoming T2 head bust from SideShow when it releases next month. That thing looks dynamite!!! It's gonna steal the show no matter where I display that. IF I can get one that is.

My Thing bust is currently in the hands of a talented painter - look forward to pics soon.

With the Spidey, I was tempted to take the lenses off, but thought it would leave a sticky uneven mess underneath. So, I did each lens in turn, getting it as horizontal as possible before using Citadel miniature paint liberally applied by brush. I then cleaned up the black edges. I'm delighted with it.

Before I did so, I actually asked Mike Hill what to use to replace the lenses (I had his e-mail as I'd bid on his eBay auction for a signed version of this bust) - he recommended the film they sell at car bodyshops to give a mirror finish to car or van windows. I decided to give the paint a try, with that as a back-up plan.

For real? I always thought they could've been bigger. LOL!
I guess you've got a problem with display space Sniper? I'm running out of space too. If possible, I just want the Surfer, Thing and Goblin busts and I'm cool.
Then I'm aiming for the new T2 bust from SideShow. I can't really get into collecting all these little Bowen busts and stuff. My main focus is primarily on the 1:1 scale head busts. If I get a higher paying job, I just might be able to expand.

Nice job! I don't have any faith whatsoever in my artistic ability(or lack of). I'd have to hire a pro.

I already got it the first time around when it was part of the Horizon model kit.

(Psst - Simmon... it's me, Russ. Y'know, "Darth Bill" formerly of the RPF? Good to see you here, too. )

I've got the Wolverine and am interested in displaying it in a Plexiglass case. Does anyone know what size case would be decent for display? Thanks.

How Many Are There?

Hey, I'm new, been lurking for a while. I'll have a thread up soon, but in the meantime...

How many Alex Ross 1:1 busts are there? I have the Thing, Hulk, Thor, Wolvie, NightCrawler, & DocDoom. Can someone list them all?
