1. Buy statues for ME. Not because I feel they may have resale value down the line. Expect a loss when I eventually lose interest and sell.
2. Buy only characters I'm deeply attached to. No more picking up chars I like but not love that look cool. These are the characters I always unload (for a loss).
3. Don't pre-order 1 to 2 years in advance without a real risk of losing some special EX edition for a char who is GRAIL. I always resent having THOUSANDS tied up that could have been invested or just in my rainy day fund.
4. Best statue wins. Don't care if it's XM, Sideshow, Prime, or whoever. I'm loyal to quality, not a brand.

Lots of great lists with smart personal guidelines. I borrowed a lot to make my own:
  1. Have fun
  2. Get what I like & never feel pressured
  3. Buy to keep
  4. Stick to what's on the Want List (unless it's a CRAZY good deal on something I'm willing to keep)
  5. Fully sculpted (except where it makes sense, like capes)
  6. No Hot Toys, action figures/man-dolls, or Pops
  7. No anime/manga characters (too many out there)
  8. Try to wait for the in hand pics before pulling the trigger
  9. Finish designing custom case ideas & get pricing
  10. It's okay to enjoy statues from a distance. Ownership is for curation, and part of the fun is that not everything will make the cut.

1. Stick to completing my 1/4 and 1/6 X-men lines.
2. Do not get pressured into buying/PO a custom "fan art" just because SS and XM haven't done it yet.
3. Practice PATIENCE!
4. No duplicate characters (only exception Gambit and Rogue (maybe Wolverine))
5. Only 1/4 scale, no other scale unless it to complete 1/6 xmen line

Exception to rule 1
Spiderman Black suit and an amazing carnage to complete spidey line
Any amazing medieval fantasy character that fits my theme (ie CoTD, LOTR or anything else that makes my jaw drop like Red Sonja did last year)

Where do people find out about fan art or custom pieces? I only see them after they are behind some youtube collector on a shelf.

Was also curious about this. Since custom pieces being sold for profit are licensing violations I see the need to be secretive, which makes them hard to find.

Artists, the producers, or eager fans will post about them on Facebook. Inquire about the piece and they will tell you outright or PM you with more details.
