Ben Grimm - A Question for all you Thing fans

Ok, I was just wondering with all the mention of the Thing's toughness, is it only because of the rock surface.

Basically, when Ben Grimm is just Ben Grimm (which has happened quite often), just how good a fighter is he? Where does he rank? Is he just a brawler?

Ben comes from a rough neighborhood, so he's street tough. College football player, Air Force pilot, also a boxer. In human form, he'd wipe the floor with most normal folks.

Everything said above about his skill level, but his rock surface is the source of his invulnerability but his strength is a function of the cosmic ray-empowerment, like his hid. What I mean is that his strength is significantly greater than someone with just rocky skin.

you must remember ben was a gang member taking after his older borther that ran yancy street. add college football and some other things I would give him better than average strength and very good fighting skills for sure.

add some cosmic rays and you have one hell of a brawler for sure.

I think one of his best attributes is his loyalty to his friends.

there is not a lot of non powered fighters though so who would we be talking about?

I just cannot seem to think of non powered marvel characters right now. I know there is those from the old western comics but since they have guns they would win. lol

For example, hand-to-hand with the Punisher? Probably not, but he'd give Frank a run for his money. I see the Punisher as the ultimate non-powered fighter in the MU. That guy will F you up.

But hand to hand against other characters who derive their powers from suits of armor, gadgets, etc? Oh yes. He'd take out folks like Tony Stark, Hank Pym, etc. He would probably be able to take out quite a few super-powered characters too, IF their powers weren't working.
