Apparently this is a thing and ppl are using it all the time. I suppose this means that as Canadian citizens we could benefit from the free US shipping options. I was advised that we would pay in American dollars and at the same time avoid cross border charges.

This would save us a few bucks in shipping and brokerage, which is already waived if you have a Fedex account. So really, it's just shipping.
For Sideshow, this wouldn't amount to too much in the way of savings, I don't think. They subsidize our shipping prices. As far as Ebay, this would be a problem because, in order to qualify for buyer protection, you need the shipping address to be verified to your Paypal account.
This would help with something like XM pieces where the shipping costs are monstrous.

Just got 2 figures from BBTS recently, listed $189 each... But I live in Quebec, so the actual price was:
$378 list price
+$52 shipping
*1.35 currency conversion
*1.15 provincial + federal taxes charged by CBSA
+$10 custom fee charged by CBSA
Total: $678
I'm pretty much done buying statues online because of this unfortunately.

I think I'll just switch my habits and only buy one a year or something. I'll just factor that into the cost of doing business. If it is too much it's too much. I'm not about to start paying over a grand every time I want a statue. Food and shelter are more important.

This is what we have at Ogdensburg, NY for the Ottawa region. UPS store and another charge $5/item, unless it is huge.

For me, this has completely eliminated impulse purchases and those "why not?" type purchases. If you're buying something that you'll keep and enjoy for a long, long time, that feeling you get when you overpay will fade. No more buying something just because it's nice though. And maybe it's time to finally sell some stuff.

Re: Politics
I've gotten PMs about this, so let me say this here:
At this point, just saying "Trump" is gonna get your post deleted because people can't handle political discussions and they always devolve into insults and nonsense.
We know where policies come from and the 'why' is too complex and divisive, and frankly off topic, for this place. Discussing how a particular in-place policy affects your statue buying is fine and relevant, the "why" and "who" isn't, neither is speculation about what's coming, policy-wise.
Again, I was challenged via PM about my claim that a discussion on Trump is irrelevant, so here is my clarification.

OMG...
went to my local statue shop to pickup my previously pre-ordered item from Sideshow and they now have to charge the 6.5% on top of everything else!!!
Collecting days are coming to an end...
