Do You Think Ennis' Punisher Would Float In Today's Post Disney Purchase Of Marvel?

Or would any Marvel Knights or Marvel Max series of old?

I spent a lot of last weekend re-reading all of my Ennis' Punisher series. Both the Knights & The Max books which I have in original comics & hardbacks. It's been a few years since I'd read them and was blown away by two things. One - Just how great they still are. The Up Is Down & Black Is White story arc matches any great work of Crime Fiction I've read in it's complexity, brutality & grit. Two - How violent, dark, gruesome, at times sexual, etc.. they are.

I got to thinking that there was just no way these comics could be published today & imagine they'll be seeing no reprinting in the near future.

Do you think these Max & Marvel Knights features were a blip? Were they stories that we'll probably never see the likes of again? I just don't see how Disney would ever allow some of the brilliant depravity that Ennis wrote for Marvel or Vertigo, for that matter, to ever see the light of day again. One could argue the same point for some of DC's Vertigo line, but The Mouse doesn't own them.

This question could apply to any of Marvel's Max line & a lot of their Knights line too.

I have the Welcome Back Frank oversized HC.

I don't think Disney will have an effect.

Disney will let Marvel do there thing.

I'm not so sure Juggernaut, & I respect your opinion. The Welcome Back Frank storyline, which was published under the Marvel Knights line, was brutal, no doubt, but throwing bad-guys from bldgs. and having polar-bears knock heads off of zoo-going hitmen was about as bad as it got. Under the Max line, you had mothers, involved in family porn rings w/ their children, being shot in the head, prostitute slavers disemboweled w/ their entrails strung through tree branches in front of them, brutal old men tied to chairs, doused in gasoline & set on fire, ex-cia operatives having their privates cut-off, I could go on. I don't see how Disney could turn a blind eye to this now. Especially when one considers, as I do, that they probably have something to do with this new Marvel approach to comics, coming after this upcoming new Civil War line, which I believe as an attempt, in their eyes, to make Marvel comics more approachable to new readers.
I think this entire line both with The Punisher & other "mature" story-lines, will be remembered as a bubble. A wild hiccup in Marvel's history, never to be repeated.

Maybe. I think theyll things will eventually swing back around but with the current MCU recieving such attention i imagine Disney, or even just Marvel themselves are likley to be wanting to unify their output to be as be as similar in style and tone to the movies as possible in order to attract potential new readers.
I imagine that as time passes we'll begin to see more MAX-esque titles again.

The only reason Marvel doesn't focus on the MAX line right now is that it wasn't selling well. Punisher comics don't sell that well in general anymore. The Disney purchase hasn't had any effect on Marvel in terms of content or maturity level.

They reprinted the 'mature' MAX Alias Omnibus recently, and I'm sure Ennis' Punisher runs will follow sooner or later, as there's a huge demand for them. It's labeled MAX after all*, so it's not as if an unsuspecting little kid will buy it and get scarred for life or something. At least theoretically. :P

* Well, one of his runs is.

Disney doesn't seem to have a big heavy hand on Marvel. I think they would still be published.

disney makes R rated movies through Touchstone. don't see why they wouldn't allow for R rated comics.

I already have the non-MAX Omnibus, so I would only double dip for a MAX Omni(s), since that run was released only in 5 oversized hardcovers.

It will happen. Wait and see.
