That and too much down time with constant boring exposition about each villain's agenda kept this one from being more fun. It also get's a little too campy at times. I don't mind some campiness, but it often felt out of place. Worth a rental though.
Thanks for the overview.

I'll be checking this film out after work today. The theater I'll be seeing it at has a special every Tuesday where all movies are only $5 all day so it's almost as cheap as paying for a rental. I can deal with that if the movie ends up not meeting my expectations.

Rental now for me too. Looks like The Seventh Son is my lesser of two evils choice for the week. They'll get my $10.

Here's my review:

Jupiter Ascending - 6.5/10

Very much a mash up of Star Wars and Dune with some flashes off The Fifth Element thrown in for good measure. The film has some spectacular CGI in the form of expansive alien landscapes and epic space tech. Definitely some of the best looking ever put on film imo. The DNA for a really great space opera is alive in this film and at times it shines through but unfortunately it is interwoven with a somewhat muddled and choppy narrative. Stand out performance for me was Sean Bean. He always brings a certain weightiness to his roles and his role in this film is no exception. I have read reviews from critics and viewers alike saying this film is a incoherent mess. I didn't find that to be the case at all. The film definitely has some issues with the narrative and needed better editing in several places but overall I was pleasantly surprised how entertained I felt as I was leaving the theater. For true scifi fans I recommend a viewing in the theater. If nothing else you will marvel at the spectacular worlds that are created and the very unique space tech and ships that grace the screen on a very grand scale.
