Wolverine Maquette paint fading...

So, I was in a LCS today - not the Brockton one, Ted, a different one - and they had the Wolvie Maquette for 50% off - this one:

I was actually considering it but when I asked to look at it I saw that both tips of his mask had some white-ish crap on them - looked sort of like scratches. The guy said it absolutely was not. Maybe just some fading. I looked closer and saw the same issue with the black on his boots.

I pointed it out to him and he said "Well, it IS 50% off. Nothing a Sharpie won't fix." Yeah, well, even for 50% off - it's not worth it to pick up this piece with defects. I told him no thank you and he was putting it into the case again and said "Oh, no wonder - it's 5 years old!"

But I have pieces 5 years old that aren't fading - is it just this piece? Does anyone else have this issue?

It's hard to get almost 100% perfect statues.

I had to touch up quite a few Cover Girls of DCU pieces I bought for minor things.

1.Black Canary- Lips problem. The white from the teeth, a bit of it ran to the bottom lip. So, it looked like she had a small right fang. I had to paint over it with matching red.

2. Catwoman - Very obvious flaw they shouldn't have passed QC. Her silver zipper line on the costume was "broken." The black on the costume went over a huge part of the zipper line, so the zipper appeared "broken".

3. Zatanna - Magician top hat had a white dot on top. The paint chipped off. Repainted.

For me, if I happened upon a 50% off Wolverine like this one with a bit of minor 'defects', I'd pick it up and then get some Tamiya acrylic paint and touch up myself.

I have some brand new statues from some big companies, and some do have little bits of small short white lines here and there. They look as if the paint came off. I just fix them up myself.

Like my Art Asylum Diamond Select Transformers Ultra Magnus bust, had small paint chip on top corner of one of his horns. The chin had a small chip. Red rocket tips on his arms have small paint chip. But it was on 50% off and last one on the shelf. I took it home anyways.

Wasn't this made by Diamond? Is it really a suprise that anything made by them could stand the test of time? Cheap crap, LOL.

I get what your saying. This didn't look like factory defects though - it looked like wear and tear while being in their possession.

Either way - I still thought they were asking too much for the condition it was in.
