Just finished this. What a fantastic book and a must read for any baseball fan. Buck O'Neil was one of the most devoted men to this game and he preached it around the country. The story of this last year of his life is amazing and filled with other great players (in particular, a moving scene with Willie Mays). This man was the living history of the game, having played in the Negro Leagues, scouted some of the great players of our day, and going on the road at 94 to meet with children and give lectures about the game.
Why this saint of a man didn't get into the Hall of Fame simply is beyond me. Posnanski writes this book as Buck's traveling partner and friend, and clearly out of admiration, respect and love.
Again, his profile is in the link at the top of this thread.
