Champions!

After a long season of ups-and-downs, the 6-a-side football team I manage and play for finally won the Bedford league last night, with a tense 4-1 victory against a pacy team with youth on their side. We thought it would be oh-so-easy when we won our first seven games, but we almost let it slip and were second with three games to go. We had to watch through our hands as the third placed team came from two goals down (just as they had done against us, annoyingly) to take a point off our nearest rivals to put it back in our hands again. We rode out the last two games, despite a pretty shoddy performance last night with the pressure on. Champagne and trophies next week, but for now a league table to savour! (Oh, and yes, you just knew the team name had to be a laboured pun...)

I'll be happy just to watch one of the Euro semi matches! We were playing last night (though caught the last few minutes at the pub) and the night before I had the much more important Scottish Cup Semi-Final replay to watch. My team (Dunfermline) beat Hibs to get to the final. So far, it's been a good week.

Congratulations! Is the team name a means of luring the opposition into a false sense of security, before grinding their bones to dust?

Wow, 6-on-6 games.
It's tough to play like that.
Congratulations.
Did you say the other team was younger?
I heard that their mom's wanted them home by 2:00PM. For their afternoon nap.

j/k - I'm just jealous that I can't play anymore.

That's the intention, at least...

I like the way it sounds like a team from some Yorkshire mining town.

Actually, the team at the bottom are a bunch of very talented but very young lads, who should move up the table each season as they grow. My legs are feeling it today, as I played the last two nights.

How many goals did you score for the year Jess?

I played with some mates from work a couple of years back and really enjoyed it. I didn’t like keeping goals on the hard surface though. Man I ended up with some bruises and sore spots after diving around

I think I got somewhere around 30. We have a brilliant striker who does most of the job up-front, and got around 70-ish. I prefer to play support role to him, but I played a lot of the season at the back when needed, and also benched myself a fair bit to let other players play. The responsibility of player-managing!

I know what you mean about goalkeeping. We have a great keeper (two in fact, though sadly they won't allow us to play them both at the same time), and both are quite happy to dive around all game. It's not for me - I get enough scrapes and bruises as it is.
