How to remove paint scuff's on statues?

I have read that baking soda can be used to remove paint scuffs. Has anyone here attempted this on a statue?

Over the years i have had a couple of statues where a piece has broken off in transit resulting in scuff's / mark's to other parts of the statue.

When it comes to baking soda, i read that the idea is to mix either 2 parts baking soda to 1 part water or 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Apply the past to a Q-tip (cotton bud on stick) and apply in a circular motion.

What i did not want to do was, end up removing the scuff along with the paint underneith.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

I very carefully use a Magic Eraser sponge for scuffs and scrapes. You just have to ensure you use just a tiny corner of it and be delicate, don't just go to town on it, and don't go past the scuff or paint transfer, into the main paint. But I've used that many times to clean up issues like that. I've not used any abrasive substances beyond that, so I've not tried baking soda.
