Talk about irony, read the last paragraph on Cessna's link. You spend your life caring for animals, and one takes you out, lol!

Thankfully shark attacks are pretty rare.
Like hit by lightning rare, well much rarer then that even. Lots more stuff to be more concerned about when swimming in the ocean.

But Spielberg didn't make a movie about killer Jellies so I know it's more dramatic and a very primal fear about sharks.

dolphins were blamed for continued scare but the shark was real.

i do like how the story has been changed by officials and the media just goes with it. now it may have been a small shark even though the guy had a 12' kayak and it was bigger then it. now only one lifeguard saw it as opposed to 2. city officials know how to change a story when tourist dollars are involved

Sharks run (uh.. "swim") rampant in Oregon; more there than any other coastal state I've lived in; Hawaii included.

You basically learn to just vacate the water when you see one, and if it turns out to be a dolphin or a seal... you head back out.

Seals, dolphins and otters have shared waves with me (they're playful, social animals... otters being the least playful of the three)... I've been able to see sharks before both from a pier and from shore, but.. yeah.. when that's the case, we don't go out.

A friend of my Mother-in-Law was killed by one a few years ago.
