Because it was sitting there all well said while I was doing research and typing out my answer and wasn't aware that I could have just piggybacked, that's why.

All part of the strategy I guess. I mean when I came in late a couple days back, and copied the last answer out of three posted (which I hadn't had time to find myself yet) the person I copied from was wrong, so I guess you roll the dice and takes your chances in that regard...

The CIA was originally called the Office of Strategic Services, or OSS for short. It was formed in 1947.
Bonus: The president that turned it into the CIA was Harry S Truman.
