Gaming News Brief

Alright back again with just some minor notes that have come up within the week or so.

*****

SHOWTIME GETS INTO GAMING

Showtime is expected to start producing their own games as well as a subscriber type of plan to have gamers download their games to play and even have some for free. This seems like a plan to get ahead of HBO as far as reaching to a broader audience.

Microsoft News

MICROSOFT WANTS TO BUY CAPCOM

If most of you didn't know, it's been known that Microsoft has been wanting to buy Capcom for quite sometime. Though at this point it seems to be getting more coverage since the release of Lost Planet. Still there is no word from Capcom that they will sell out. And I for one hope they don't.

RARE FOUNDERS LEAVE

Also Rare, the company that brought you, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, and the recent Viva Pinata was a company that was bought out by Microsoft. Due to the lack of great money making games it seems, the founders have left the company. This is incredibly bad news for Rare and Microsoft as they pretty much bought them out for their success with Nintendo in the past.

I for one can't wait to see Goldeneye and Perfect Dark pop up on the Wii's Virtual Console, though it's possible we won't see Perfect Dark, since Nintendo has the license for Goldeneye, and Rare created PD. But we'll see. Even better if there's added multiplayer!

MICROSOFT DVR 360

Also Microsoft seems to be getting into the IPTV business. Word has it that they might or will start a program where you can turn your 360 into a DVR like device provided you purchase the service they will give you a harddrive loaded with the needed software to make it happen. Now ppl wonder, what of all the stuff on the already existing harddrive? There is no word whether we'll be able to swap our info from one to another, or have to physically switch them all the time. But I like the idea actually as long as there's no subscriber fees like TiVo.

XBOX LIVE OUTSELLS AMAZON OUTBOX

Xbox Live is bigger then many ppl think. It's Marketplace download service has been outselling Amazon's Outbox service where you can download movies and what not. It just seems that Outbox is a bit more tedious when having to download it's player to your system then streaming the movies to you or downloading I should say. And with Micropoints from Xbox it just makes it overall easier to get all the content you can want.

*On a downloading content related note, Netflix has started their pay to download service as well. When you sign up and get started it immediately tests your connections and streams you the movies at the appropriate rate for optimal viewing. Initial reports have said it's very good, with some minor hiccuping, and that full screen looks surprisingly good.*

PS3 News Short

As posted in another thread, apparently if you buy cables OTHER then Sony's they will void your warranty. As far as going with Sony that is. Just return it to the shop. But it would be best NOT to tell them that

PS3 in EXCESS!

It seems like it's not that hard to get a PS3 afterall. In fact, ppl don't seem to be wanting it as much as before. What seemed like an ebay backlash with ppl returning their systems back for their money, that is not the case. Many shops have plenty of PS3s in stock yet they are not selling out. Whereas the Wii is still incredibly hard to find, and you still need to line up for. When it comes down too it, it's just still too much to pay for, with hardly any games worth having, it's just not flying off the shelves like Sony has hoped for. Hey if it gets bad lets hope Best Buy starts offering crap to throw in, to make us buy it!

Wii News

WII PORN

The Wii gets PORN friendly! If you haven't tried the Wii's Internet Channel browser already, you'll find out you can pretty much go anywhere and look at anything like you normally would. Even flash and videos play just fine. BUT apparently the porn industry has gotten wind of this, and have begun creating "Wii Friendly" sites for the Wii owners. Basically you'll notice more of the sites fitting within the windows so you don't have to scroll around as much, and the buttons are alot larger so you don't have to sort of fidget around to click on them. Who would have thought, that the world's "kiddiest system" would have porn tailored to it eh?

COPY WII GAMES

There's a disc out now that can let you copy your Wii games and back them up. It's a bit of a tedious process but you can even send them to your mates but only through the net obviously unless you burn them somehow, but there's no word on that yet. Still I don't think it's worth it as it takes a long time to do, but hey, at least we know it's possible.

WARIOWARE IS RELEASED

WarioWare Smooth Moves was finally released last week, and praised by many as a great game. I suggest anyone with a Wii to go out and get one. It's incredibly fun and weird, but worth owning if you have a Wii. I'll pick it up as soon as I get another Wii.

OTHER NINTENDO NEWS

A developer/inventor has managed to fit an NES in an NES controller. You simply plug it into a Tele and you're set to play. It comes programmed with 70 preset games, but if for some reason you don't find the ones you want you can simply insert the games through the top of the controller. Sure you'll have a huge cartridge hanging off the top, but hey, you have an NES in a controller, how kewl is that? I don't remember the price but it looks very kewl. Beats having to always have your emulators, regardless of the modded systems we got.

****

And that's it for this week so far. Feel free to discuss and throw in any other info you may have that I may have missed. It's been a long week at work and getting longer so I tend to miss certain things.

Cheers!

Well hey the Wiimote does vibrate..

And yeah I hope they don't sell to Microsoft. I'm pretty sure they won't. 99.9% they won't. But MS is big and has lots of money. And Streetfighter does not play well on Xbox controllers!
