This is about 97% of the reason for my interest in the character even though it won't be this costume anymore

At least they have the balls to do it, unlike DC who took decades to give the most popular comic heroine of all time her movie.
Kudos Marvel. Kudos.
And Captain Marvel has all sorts of pontential. Very intersted to see what story they go with.
Though I question them not calling it Ms Marvel. Is that to not alienate the male audience?

Carol goes by the name Captain Marvel in the comics past two years now, nothing to do with alienating male audience.
Of course Marvel isn't go to trick the general audience by having the Captain Marvel title and make them believe it's not a female superhero.
Marvel and most fans (including myself) are pleased with the title change in the comics and I am glad they are sticking with it for the movie.

Swear I remember, some time ago, that Katee Sackhoff had a meeting with Marvel. She wouldn't talk about it, & the story kind of went away, but my money's on her for Carol -

I really don't understand all the DC bashing, still. Marvel doesn't have any more "balls" in this regard as they've never done a stand alone female super hero film either, Captain Marvel will be their first and DC's Wonder Woman will hit theaters a year before it.
I honestly believe the climate for this type of film to be successful just hasn't been there until now. Mass audiences seem to be ready though with high quality comic book films becoming more the norm than the exception. Films like Thor & Guardians of the Galaxy have opened the door to material of a more fantastical nature, so I'm certainly thankful for Marvel doing that, credit where credit is due. That being said I'm personally glad we haven't seen a Wonder Woman film yet as I don't believe the material would have been done justice due to the risk involved. Given DC's plans we should get a film worthy of that character now.
