UPS Damaged Package Claim, any tips?

So finally had a statue get absolutely mangled that I sent to a boardie - refunded him immediately (trustworthy boardie, not worried at all) and I'm trying to initiate an insurance claim via UPS and it's exactly the nightmare I expected - their crappy site literally won't let you submit the actual claim (tried on 3 different browsers on 2 devices).

Any advice? Anyone have a secret e-mail, contact, general advice? I know this one is going to be a battle, lol.

Start by calling customer service 1 (800) 742-5877 and ask for a supervisor. They can usually fill out the form if the sites not working. Sometimes I think it's by design, so they don't have to do extra work during the holidays.

Not going to lie this is the worst time of year to have to contact any mail carrier for a claim or refund. Obviously, the site not working doesn't help. This week and next are the 2 worst weeks for UPS because of Christmas gifts, returns and employee vacations, so it might be hit or miss till after New Year's. Just keep trying and make sure you get a claim/reference number, or they won't want anything to do with you when you make return calls. Longest turnaround I've had to wait is 45-60 days non holiday.

In all my collecting years i only had to do a UPS claim once years ago....ordered a statue on ebay arrived broke in half....seller refunded after i sent it back and seller had to file the claim. So can be a double loss for the seller if you get stuck with a broke statue with a denied claim and buyer refund...usually UPS will inspect the packing material and take that into account....basically use it to deny the claim. If its not packed by UPS Store its a tough road for claim approval...the holidays is also another thing working against you

Retain all packing material and have the buyer take lots of photos.

Yep, the Buyer has been great and I've already got the claim started with UPS (they have a special # for damages I tracked down) and have already been communicative...

I look forward to them claiming it was improperly packed despite it being shipped in a sideshow brown shipper.

If UPS can't bounce it like a basketball or beat it with a baseball bat, to them, it's improperly packaged.
