SF escrow service
This may have been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything. Has this forum ever given any thought to starting an escrow service for members to sell to each other? It could be a cheaper alternative to eBay while still providing some protections for both buyers and sellers.
Just a thought.

This would be ideal for online commissions with artists.

It wouldn't work in an eBaY-type setting, but commissions would probably be ideal.
'Course the forum probably doesn't want to get mixed up in these dealings.

at one point we tried to set up a smaller scale ebay and unfortunatly the membership did not want to use it enough.
though that was under the old ebay days that where friendlier to sellers.
if we did something like that, there would have to be contracts almost to ensure things go smootly and also it would take a lot of time and effort on unpaid folks to deal with things. personally just dealing with folks here without dealing with their money takes a lot of time

It would be a big undertaking, especially dealing with parties should the be any delays or shipping issues. I'm not sure there's enough crazy people out there to act as middle man
