I think characters who are appropriate to have years more worth of story line are nigh immortal characters such as Thor, Silver Surfer, or Hercules - even Apocalypse.
Mortal characters should age like normal people. Yes, I know they don't exist in the actual same timeline as us, but they should age somewhat. Someone can't look exactly the same today as they did in the 80's.
I love Marvel and DC, but I am checking out other Indie titles just to get a fresh new face to a book.
