Your brand new Toyota Corrolla you bought through the Cash for Clunk may be recalled!

Recalled: #1 Car Bought During Cash For Clunker Program Recalled!

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The honeymoon is over, your brand new Toyota Corrolla that you just bought through the Cash for Clunker Program may be recalled.

Toyota, the #1 car bought during Cash for Clunkers program, announced Wednesday that they are launching a voluntary Safety Recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) involving approximately 95,700 Toyota and Scion vehicles sold in the United States because a possible brake malfunction.

On certain 2009 and 2010 model year Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and 2008 and 2009 Scion xD vehicles all equipped with 1.8 liter engines, Toyota has determined that if the vehicle is operated in extremely low ambient temperatures, there is a possibility that condensed moisture from the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) port may seep into the brake system vacuum port and freeze. Should this condition continue, ice may slowly accumulate at the brake system vacuum port and in the extreme case, ultimately plug the vacuum port. As a result of the accumulation of ice, power assist to the brakes would gradually decrease and lead to lengthened vehicle stopping distances.

Since this condition only manifests in extremely low ambient temperatures, vehicle owners from 19 affected states will begin receiving a Safety Recall Notification via first class mail in early September, 2009. Those states are: Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Toyota dealers will install a newly designed intake air connector which relocates the brake system vacuum port. The repair will take approximately one hour, depending on the dealers work schedule, at no charge to the vehicle owner.

No other Lexus, Toyota, or Scion vehicles are involved.

Yeah, but unlike Ford, Toyota has the best recall response in the business and a hell of a lot less recalls than Ford does. Anyone who hasn't taken delivery of their Corolla will have the problem fixed before they do and they won't wait an extra second for it. I worked for a car-hauler that brought new Toyotas, Hondas, Cryslers and Fords to dealers. Whenever there was a problem with a Ford or Chrysler the cars would go off-site for weeks and months to local shops who did shoddy work and dealers would call daily looking for the cars because customers were not happy. Toyota was a different story. As soon as a problem was found, the very next day a fleet of SUVs with dark-tinted windows would suddenly show up at the car storage area. About a dozen people would get out and everyone was warned in advance not to talk to them or interfere with them in any way. They would take every car with a problem to a designated area of the yard we were not allowed near. Within 24 hours all the cars would be returned to their spots in the lot and cleared to ship. The 12 mysterious men would get back in their SUVs and disappear. It was really something to see. Months later we would still be getting calls from Ford dealers who had customers threatening to cancel sales because they still hadn't had the problems fixed.

Ford stands for "all our cars other than the Mustang really suck"

But what does this recall have to do with anything? Not like the car is returned - its just a shop visit.

I was very impressed with the 2005 Mustang GT I had.

Fun car to drive, and had no problems at all in 3 years.
