Since the statue is of a DC property, it has to be approved by the licensing department at DC (or whatever group does that at Warner Brothers). Apparently it's been waiting for approval for about six months, not because DC necessarily doesn't like the piece, but apparently because the approval paperwork is just sitting on someone's desk somewhere - this is according to Jason, who built the prototype. Hence the administrative hell...
I'm hoping that everything gets worked out so Tweeterhead can move ahead with actually making this, because it's going to be amazing if the proto is any indication.

I see. I hope they can agree on it and get paperwork done quickly on this whole line moving as fast as people. I really think quality paint job will make this be the definitive Starfire thus far.

Maybe licensing issues with likeness? With the show coming next month maybe they are shifting approvals more skewed towards this? Just a guess and probably a bad one.
Having worked with tons of IP, there many hoops to jump through.
Curious to hear details if ever provided....

I hope that there are zero changes to this piece. Starfire is perfect. I can’t take another blow like the SS Psylocke where a piece I fell in love with from top to bottom is tweaked.
Luckily, DC is pretty open with the statues. They understand how these characters were drawn for decades in their comics, so the statues should represent that.

I'm right there with you... The prototype is stunning - I so hope DC can just say YES and let Tweeterhead do their thing with Starfire exactly as she is right now.

I'd still like to see the hair look like Starfire from the 80's and not the modern hybrid it is now.
Apart from the more voluptuous figure compared to some other female characters, That huge lion's mane was easily her most prominent physical attribute and everyone that drew her followed the Perez template for it- which this statue absolutely does not.
It's a nice look figure, but it just doesn't feel like it nails the character for me because of that aspect.

Big, curly, wavy Byrne hair and Perez hair seem to be hard to translate in statue form. It usually looks like a stringy mess. IMO this is one of the best versions of it yet.

pdenham, maybe you'd be more interested in the Icon Heroes version?
It's the one I was strongly considering before seeing this Tweeterhead piece. The pose is stronger and she seems more "realistic" in some way. I also like the way her hair is depicted... lots of life and action while still staying true to the comic version (IMHO).

He does actually prefer that statue's art direction, but it's rather small at 1/10 scale.

I think they struck a nice balance between the gravity defying world of 2D and the real world. The hair is plenty big without looking Peg Bundy-ish.
