Aphrodite IX – Sculpted by Clay Moore for Top Cow Productions Ltd.
Brief History: Aphrodite is an android created in the image of a female human by her creator/father Doctor Tyson Mane who brought her up like any other young child. She was later taken away from her father and trained to be an obedient assassin/servant. One of her first missions was to kill Mane, which she did. This had a traumatic effect on her memory and on future missions. She eventually regained some of these memories and was released from her ties with the ‘Chairman’. Powers: Aphrodite is a synthetic woman designed for surveillance, interrogation, infiltration, and assassination. The exact nature of her abilities has not been revealed, but her actions show great strength and expert marksmanship with firearms.

Sculpt: The sculpt stands approximately 14.5 inches tall and in typically Clay Moore style the female form is shown with ‘Supermodel’ looks. The figure is held into the clear resin base with a single foot-peg. I’m sure a lot of boy collectors would have loved to have seen a reflective floorJ. The detail on the booths is absolutely fantastic; the mini skirt is partially blown up in a reminder to the classic Marylyn Monroe scene. One of her firm arms is actually loose and can be removed from its holster. The hair is nicely sculpted as are the accessories including the ammunition belt, guns and gloves. The detailing is top notch. The base is a simple yet effective creation and round in shape. Sculpt 8 out of 10

Paint Application: The colours are kept to a minimum on the figurine with only white, green, black, brown and some copper and yellow. The paint application is extremely good on mine and I have not heard of any previous complaints from fellow collectors who have this piece. Paint 9 out of 10.

Critique: As with a lot of sculpts I find the figure to base connection quite annoying. AIX is on her toes, which means there is very little surface-to-surface contact. This along with a single foot peg makes this a rocky display. I’m sure it wouldn’t have been too much bother to have two-foot pegs on this sculpt.

Conclusion: Overall this is a very nice sculpt but I’m sure its not to everyone’s taste just as say Greg Horns art. Its pure cheesecake but I like it. I was lucky enough on a trip to Dallas, Texas to pick mine up for a great price knowing how much these get on eBay. There is talk of an AP version being released this year. I eagerly await the results. Overall score on this sculpt 7 out of 10.
