I ordered this too. Can't wait. I have the original story in my long boxes & plan on mentioning Breretons art tomorrow along with a few other things. Winding down the following 2 days. Thanks for chiming in Mr. H. Love reading your opinions.

Mr. H brought up Dan Brereton & his Nocturnals series, rightly so. Brereton's art is so unlike any others' that he really has to be mentioned n this thread. I 1st was made aware by Dan's Black Terror mini for Eclipse that he drew back in 89/90. Had to buy. He drew some things for DC then in the late 90's, early 2000's drew The Nocturnals for Malibu & finally Darkhorse. Literally a super-hero team composed of inventive, never-before-seen Halloween & Spooky themed characters. Beautiful art & an omni. of his work hit lcs yesterday -

Not quite ready to give up the anthology horror series in the 1st decade of the 2000's, Dark Horse made a final stab with it with their reintroduction of 2 classic names in the genre. In 2009, after securing the rights, DH started publishing regular size, b&w versions of Creepy & Eerie. I've read them & they just couldn't hold a candle to the original runs even though they brought in many of the original artists. Still, some great covers were produced along with a smattering of solid tales. - After these new Creepy & Eerie books, anthology horror went away for a while.

I was thinking last night about how I've never given credit to a comic company that has, for 70+ years, celebrated the Halloween season with comics devoted to
October 31st. Recently, they've even developed a very satisfying horror line of their own which I've found to be scary as hell at times.

Yes ..... Archie Comics -

In 2013, Archie comics took a tremendous chance by publishing Afterlife With Archie. A zombie Archie book where we'd see regular characters die, some returning as zombie, & the entire town of Riverdale overrun by graphically drawn (by Francesco Francavilla) undead. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote it.

A year later, Roberto would follow up Afterlife with The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. I actually prefer this book over the 1st on account of a tremendous number of classic horror movies are artistically referenced on both the covers & interiors. Robert Hack drew/draws it & it went away during the airing of a tv show based on it, but now that the show's over, the comic is being published again. -

I can't recommend either comic enough. Both are out in trade.

Afterlife With Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are excellent. I re-read them every year around a Halloween.

You're not alone. I reread both series one a year too. Hop you've happily discovered that Chilling Adv. of Sabrina recently dropped a brand new issue, picking right up. Really, 2 great examples of modern horror.
