Wait. Is there no 2 player vs mode right off the bat?

I have the CE coming in from Amazon (please don't be region locked ), so I'd be pretty disappointed if I couldn't do normal battles at home (I never or rarely challenge online).

I bought the digital download for convenience, laziness, and to prevent disc drive wear-and-tear. I'll pick up the disc way down the line when it's <$20.

I wish I had been that smart for Halo 5. I just had to have a disc and missed out on the Deluxe Collector's edition for $99 while paying $80 for the limited edition that came with a disc. Rookie move.

Wow, this game is getting blasted hard. So there's mostly just online play, but the servers are wonky? And there's story mode, but it's four one-round fights?

You'd think Capcom would delay the game a month or so to fix these issues. It's hard to overcome initial reviews and criticism when that's when most of the sales occur.

The game received review scores higher than Vanilla SF4.

The server issues were an issue, but many games (including major titles like WoW) have day 1 issues the first day the servers go live.

It's just a reality of modern gaming.

As far as "delaying the game". Major tournaments on the Pro Tour need to run their 2016 event.

We/They could not run the first month[s] without the main event game. Unless you're suggesting we/they should've waited until 2017 to release the game?
