Only 7 copies made; 6 have been given out and 1 will be auctioned. I could see this hitting over $500,000.

Doing it this way is smart, and selfish at the same time. By not releasing this normally, it won't be as scrutinized if it sucks, and the last thing she wants to do is do more Potter after the success of the original series and it being bad.
It's a safety net for her- just like pulling the dumbledore is gay after the books are done rather than having the courage to do it in the book.
Only reason I can think of doing it this way to be honest. If it was about charity, she could release the book like any other, and give all proceeds to charity if she really wanted to...if it bombed using this channel though, it may impact any hype for her next book that's non-Potter and her reputation LOL. Whatever it may be..
