Why do a large majority of americans drive these massive suvs? Do they really think they are a fashion statement?

My friend drives a ford expedition and when he was buying it a few years ago he said he wanted the Hummer I told him he was nuts to buy it seeing how he could barely afford the expedition.
Another friend I use to work with works at a dealership and he said some of the guys that buy these expensive suv`s can barely afford it or buy gas for it but it`s a status symbol.

You know...this makes me:
Sick,
Mad,
and feel really really stupid!
Why do we Americans put up with this sh!t?

Hey Ryche don't come down too hard on them. Looks like Exxon did a little better:
Profits at Exxon Mobil surged 36 percent to a near record $10.4 billion in the second quarter as surging oil prices helped the world's largest publicly traded company soundly beat Wall Street forecasts.
The company's profit - which amounts to a cool $1,318 a second - is the second biggest ever reported by a U.S. company, behind only the $10.7 billion Exxon itself earned in the fourth quarter of 2005.
That $1,318/sec comes to a cool $79,080 per minute. Somebody at BP should be fired for only pulling in $55,000 per minute.
If this doesn't wake folks nothing will. And it probably won't.

I drive a sportscar that only runs on premium, but it's surprisingly good on gas

This happens because capitalism only helps the top five percent of people.
