I certainly really liked ''Leon'' and ''Fifth Element'' so count me in.

Both films are unquestionably great, classics to be sure and arguably Besson's best work to date. That said they're both over 2 decades old now ('94 & '97 respectively) and he hasn't made anything on par with those since. His strength lies in world building IMO. His talent as a Director is marginal at best.

The movie is garbage, don't waste your money on it.
The intro and Rihanna's character are the only decent things about it.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Decided to give this ago the other night. In some ways I came away far more impressed than I’d anticipated. From start to finish the movie is green screen CGI overload. Most of the time, the CGI looks stunning. I couldn’t help but think, some of the characters would translate into epic statues. Bubble (Rihanna) could fill a line by herself. Sergeant Laureline (Cara Delevingne) would be a sell-out. Major Valerian (Dane DeHaan) would make for the ideal companion piece. There’s many other interesting looking characters also.
Story 4/10
Effects 10/10

Huh, I really liked this movie... 8/10
Maybe because I knew nothing about it when I saw it so I didn't have any expectations going in.... story was decent, great action scenes and special effects...

I will watch it again. Something about the movie reminded me of the good vibes from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

The comics did inspire elements for Star Wars so you're picking up on that I think.
