Hangin' with Stephen King this past Friday night

Well, actually, it was me and 999 other people, but still...

There's an actual independent bookstore left around here (called "a Real Bookstore") that gets great support from the community. They were able to book Stephen King for one of (I think) 5 dates he was using to promote his latest novel, 11/22/63, a time travel story based around the Kennedy assassination. He spoke to a crowd of 1000 for an hour at McKinney North High School, telling stories, reading from the novel, and answering questions. The guy is so laid-back and affable, and I enjoyed every minute of it. No pictures, unfortunately, but I'll never forget it.

Has anyone here ever met him or attended one of his appearances?

What a great story! I'd love to be able to meet Stephen King someday.

Sounds like you had a great time.

He spoke at a Writer's Conference I went to in the mid-90's; good humored guy. He's never been anything short of amazing with his work, but it's been a real treat to see how he's branched off a bit with his genres.. lots of fun.

I met Ray Bradbury at a signing at a "real bookstore" myself, some years ago (he lives in nearby Santa Barbara)... living legends, they are.

No, but have a similar story w/ John Irving.

Did anyone ask him about sequels? Would love to read a sequel to Salems Lot, The Stand, The Mist, etc... I realize he concluded the stories, but he left room for more.
Would have loved to have been there for his talk. You're a lucky-duck.

Wow, I'd love to hear John Irving!

King mentioned several upcoming novels, including a new Dark Tower volume. There's a sequel to The Shining on the way: Doctor Sleep, featuring a grown-up Danny Torrance. The crowd went nuts.
