My wife bought me this book and I couldn't read it fast enough. It may be one of the top 5 business books I've ever read, and I have about 5 shelves full of them between my MBA student days and my 25 year working career. Written by a PhD level professor at the Stanford Business School, also a frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, the author
- defines what these people are
- the damage they do
- how to deal with/combat them
- how to screen for them when interviewing
- how to prevent yourself from becoming one
I've worked in an office environment since 1982. As humorous as this title may sound, these people are no joke. They do serious damage and create horrendous impacts on people and businesses.
I'm far enough in my career that I don't put up with them and have been able to deal effectively and efficiently with them, but it wasn't always this way. I winced with stinging pain as I read about the experiences of some people and what it was like for me about 15-20 years ago.
I recommend this book highly to anyone who's felt bullied, helpless and abused by anyone in the workforce, or who know of people like this who either need help or work in an environment where these "assholes" exist.
