The piece that comes to mind first is Kyle's Lee Bermejo piece. Instant jealously when I saw it.

I'll have to dig around and see what else was posted this year by other members.

Thanks guys. Punisher, those are all really nice.

It's very difficult for me to recall who owns what, but off the top of my head:

Chris Stevens' Dr. Strange cover in Ken's collection:
http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryp...?piece=1329611

Granov Avengers piece in JMT's collection. One of the nicest pieces of the year:

In terms of people outside SF, the rich Italian dude I tracked down who picked up my second favourite cover ever...Dell'Otto's DARK KNIGHT #1 cover. I offered at least twice what he paid for it and far more than I've ever spent on a piece, but he wasn't having any of it lol. DK #3 was also nice, but out of my range @ 17K USD.

So here are some of my favorites from CAF for the year. I broke it down by newcomer artist, established artist and finally the piece that for me was the one I kept coming back to most – aka my favorite piece from someone else’s collection.

Newcomer’s

Todor Hristov

Todor to me was that newcomer that stopped me dead on my tracks when I first saw his work. Every single one of his Batman pieces has been tremendous but the first one that he did is the type of art that I want to have a poster of:

Robson Rocha

Yes, I realize that Robson isn’t new. But he’s relatively new to me as I hadn’t really followed his work before this year. For me he did the best female commissions out there in 2016. Yes, better than AH…better than JSC…IMHO of course. This Huntress was just astounding:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1323866

Ralvi Ariyan

I don’t know what Ralvi has been eating while working on Batman commissions, but whatever it is, it’s given him the ability to consistently crank out some of the best ‘modern’ Batman pieces out there. Truly, not one stinker in the bunch. This one for me is his best – the pose and the imagery are just perfect:

Honorable mention: Mike Huddleston
Mike came in like a wrecking ball. And then he disappeared. But what he did crank out was wonderful:

Established guys

Ardian Syaf

Ardian OWNED commissions. Owned. Every single one of his pieces was amazing. Every one. The colors…the poses…the mood…the details…just amazing. There’s too many to list but here are a sampling of my favorites:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1306581

Jae Lee

While the commission list experience sounds painful, I can see why people are staying on. Most of the pieces are coming out amazing and these two have been my favorite of the bunch:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1335964

Mike Mckone

I’ll admit…Mckone for me used to be that guy that would go to every show just hanging out with Jim Califiore. I’d peek at his work and think “that’s cool” and move on. But in late 2015 and all of 2016 he started out cranking out at home masterpieces:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1311708

Honorable mentions: Jock and Phil Noto

Jock I really loved before. But now I’m obsessed. Noto I didn’t really like before. But now I’m obsessed.

Favorite of the year

So my favorite piece of the year may not be new. But it was new to me in 2016. And given my above links…you probably guessed correctly that it would be a Batman. But not just any Batman…a Batman atop a rooftop…death surrounding him..bats in the air…a full moon behind him. Dark. Heavy. Powerful. Risso.

I'm on board with you for Todor, Carlos...that guy is amazing...and versatile.

For New guys (or at least new to me):

Devmalya Pramanik - amazing work this year.
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1360701

Arturo Lauria - Something about his work that I absolutely love, so much in fact, that I commissioned 4 pieces from him....hoping to share those soon.
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1351295

Mike Huddleston - Absolute rock star
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...?Piece=1331921

Established Guys:

Jae is killing it these days. Bill S, Alex Maleev, Chris Stevens, Bermejo all put out incredible published and commissioned work last year. Clay Mann's trinity work has been phenomenal too.

Any art from other peoples collection that you fawned over in 2016?

Kyle's Lee Bermejo Batman cover is probably the best art I've seen in 2016 and am extremely jealous. Wow. just wow.

Any new artists that really caught your eye in 2016?

Not really.

Any established artists that you were in love with this year?

Gabriele Dell'Otto. His recent Spiderman and Batman covers are mind blowing. Too bad his price has gone through the roof with these covers.

Agreed. Love the Spider-Man covers but the prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Yup, Gabe will always be #1...his spidey covers are amazing, and his DK3 covers were just one knockout after another!

FYI, his "rep" is not his rep. He buys the artwork LOW and in-person and flips it. Sometimes he doesn't pay until he's flipped. I've had this confirmed by 3-4 people. Unfortunately there's no real way around it unless you live in Rome!
