Yamato Greek Myth MEDUSA statue

Here is my Medusa statue. Hell of a time sculpting this. Definitely the most complex model I have done so far. Hope you guys like it. This will be out after Aphrodite.

I'll have to see it painted. I get why you did certain details, just not sure about it as a whole. I like the contrast she has to the other pieces, but I don't know if I am feeling the face.... Also, I kind of wish there was more tail and less rock.

I think the sculpting is superb.
Wei, you have captured the supposed ugliness of Medusa brilliantly. She really is as unpleasant as the myths suggest.

Truth is, I don't want ugly things in my home, and shall pass on this one. Beautiful objects, yes, ugly ones, no thanks, not even when as well realised as this one is.

Regards,

Richard.

Thanks Richard, that was one of the challenges to make her sexy and mean looking at the same time. Thanks, -Wei

Medusa is a bit different for me to model as I usually love to model nice looking legs=). The tail to me is boring on Medusa so it's minimize in the statue. The focus is always the female form in a sexy pose. Thanks, -Wei

It's clear that you have mad skills as a sculptor!

I see a recurring theme in your pieces and in your posts explaining them - the legs, and the "sexy" pose. I get it, everyone gets it, you like women!!! Hell, I love women, and I could write an essay on the reasons why! But.......Sexy, is one aspect of the female condition.

In some situations, a woman is far from "sexy". Take a look at reference photos of sadistic female murderer's for example! What I'm saying is, you've just sculpted a statue of Medusa, and in your mind the design brief is for her to be "sexy", problem is, Medusa was anything but sexy!! She was cruel, vindictive, murderous, and without mercy. She was death incarnate.

My advice is to not let childish male adolescent sexual fantasy dictate your entire portfolio, explore the range of possibilities these characters actually have. The best artists are not "one trick ponies". Trying to make everything "sexy", even the most horrific characters from myth and legend, serves only to make them comical....

That is why I decided not pick this line, the overly done "sexy" . More supermodels in cosplay than women gods.
