Superman: Whatever happened to the man of tommorow? Alan Moore/Curt Swan/ George Perez inks. Instant classic.

Excellent choice, and probably the only 2 Superman comics I own!

I also really enjoyed Superman for all Seasons (4 part, prestige format). I kept this in my collection as well.

Hulk Future Imperfect is another excellent read.

Did you read, in Superman/Batman, how Loeb integrated the Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow with the Kingdom Come Superman, per my Kingdom Come review in this thread or my review of the Superman/Batman series? What a great touch!

And it was a good review. I still think it's the best example of what can be done with a character who possesses a widely known mythos in a story set in the future.

Oh, yeah you got to put Dark Knight Returns in this list, and just act like the sequel never happened.

Thanks mad. I have MUCH love for future imperfect as well, it really threw everyone for a loop back when it came out, I mean, there is turning "evil", and then there is becoming the maestro. Damn.

Re: Dark Knight. Me and wk of course agree w/the sentiment, the seminal "alternate future story", and yeah, DK2, what's that? Kinda like the sequal to "Kingdom Come", both never happened in my mind. The thing is, SO much has been said about DK, we figured we'd give some other books a chance.

Also, I tend to think "Kingdom Come" is gonna be a good canidate for DC's "absolute" treatment (DK as well, now that I think about it)...
