I love how some of you project your opinions and your idea of value and what something should be worth on the market as a whole.
You don't like something, don't buy it. You don't think something is worth the money, don't buy it. If you don't think a company makes quality products, don't buy their products.
I get it, some of you are frustrated. But this is a LUXURY hobby. Sideshow isn't cornering the market on baby formula or trying to tax oxygen or drinking water; the outrage and moralizing is so unnecessary.
Oh, Sideshow is self-interested? Collecting is all about self-interest and it's an inherently greedy concept. The whole reason for the price complaints is people want MORE for their money; forget artists, forget artistic merit, forget factory workers working for peanuts, you want MORE. Sideshow also wants MORE; they want more profit, more licenses, more marketshare, more clients, more sales. Businesses act like businesses, what a shocker.
Organizing people to not buy their products? No one is buying $500, $1000, and $2000 objects because they don't want them; no business on earth, including Sideshow, has the ability to get people to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on non-necessities they don't actually want. Again, this isn't baby formula or diapers or heart medication; the people who don't want this WON'T BUY IT, and they don't need anyone to organize a boycott. And the people who want it and are willing to buy it will do so regardless of how anyone else feels, and they're no more selfish or foolish than those of you who are trying to impose YOUR TASTES and YOUR SUBJECTIVE OPINION OF VALUE on everyone else.
Yeesh. Sorry for the rant and if this comes off as rude, but come on! Just go spend your money and your time focused on something that's worth it to you, and stop with the outrage.

I disagree. For some its investment and for others its just a form of self expression- making memories tangible. Inherently it was a matter of survival- collecting food for the winter months. You make it sound so dirty lol.

People who collect manufactured pop culture items for investment have a ton of re-thinking to do. That's the 90's comic collector in people talking and it's inherently ridiculous. Investing your money with the thought to sell for more at any given point on reproduced pieces is fool-hardy. It's hard enough to do so on newer original art and sculpture, doing so on what is essential a mass-market item is just bad investment.

Actually all of these things are about self-interest. Self-interest doesn't necessarily mean anything dirty or immoral, it just means furthering your own interests, whether it's about personal investment, expression or survival. That's my whole point.

Amen dude. I have a crap load of sports cards and comics and I can count on one hand how many of them are actually worth any real money.

Nothing is absolute. Collecting can benefit others. But generally speaking, it's a solo endeavor. It's also a materialistic endeavor, and with materialism often comes that mindset of always wanting/needing more. It's human nature.
I was just reading an old thread for the first Spider-Man comiquette the other day for fun, and it's hilarious because 6 years ago people had the same complaints, levied the same criticisms of Sideshow, and balked at the $350 price tag, a price which anyone would gladly pay today for that piece, or 1/4 scale pieces in general. That thread was essentially no different than threads today. The reality is, when it comes to materialistic pursuits, nothing is ever enough, prices are always too high, there's always something else you "need" to feel complete, and people always want more for their money. And round and round we go.
