Given the diagnosis he received I completely understand his reasoning. I watched my wife fight it and I watched it steal quite a bit from her, but it never stole her spirit. It never stole her love. We put as much into the time we had left as we could, and I pray that Mr. Perez will get to do the same thing.
My best memory of him was at the Dragon Con in 2013. He was working on a Superman for the guy in line in front of me (I got me a Captain America) when the lights went out on the floor. PITCH BLACK. I broke out my cell phone and turned on my flashlight like many others I'm sure did. Damn if he didn't ask me to shine it on the page and he kept drawing. He was laughing, we were laughing, and the lights came on about a minute later. Even with his eyes going bad, the man was willing to draw by flashlight for his fans. I've met many decent people at conventions, but none that showed the level of love and dedication toward their fans that Mr. Perez did. He was and is a class act.
F*ck Cancer.

We were lucky to have Perez grace so many books with his heart. I hope he gets to enjoy the time he has left.

I would love to see DC start to do some portfolio's of his work and art books like they did withFrank Quitely, Darwin Cooke, Brian Bolland, etc.
