what is your opinion of John Byrne?
during his later artwork for the X-Men and Alpha Flight comic, he was the best comic book artist in my opinion
in John's art every stroke of the pen has a purporse
perfection in motion

As a comic book long-time reader, I've never quite understood what happened to John? I read pretty much everything he drew in the 80's & 90's. & what ever he drew or wrote or both seemed magic. & Then, just one day, he seemed to just have disappeared from DC & Marvel. I know he's still out there, drawing more obscure indi books. But why did he just stop drawing for Marvel & DC? We all love his work on the big 2. Why no more?

My all-time favorite artist. The entire reason Alpha Flight has always been my favorite comic.

I honestly wonder why so many people misspell it "Bryne". It's Byrne.

He's the epitome of comic book art perfection should be imo. Perez 2nd. I believe he dropped off because of his large ego. He's very talented but he's like oil to the water (editors). I read an article that Chris Claremont is paid by Marvel to NOT write and I wonder if they did a similar contract with John?

One of my top five all time artists. Narrowing down the five is tough but he's definitely in there.

Most of my favorite comics are either drawn by or written & drawn by John Byrne. I think he's one of the best storytellers to have ever worked in comics. It's too bad he can't get along with the powers that be at one of the Big Two. He's done some good work at IDW.
For the last few years, he's been working on some Star Trek photonovels for them and from what I hear they are pretty good. Seems though that lately he's kind of gotten out of or at least taken a hiatus from, drawing comics/commissions.

I do not know what exactly his beef is with DC and Marvel but for some reason I do think his beef against Marvel is bigger than his beef against DC.
He is one of the top 5 all time great comic artists in my opinion. His art style is so perfect for a team book. I do think this is a shame that we do not see on such a book. I know a few years ago when DC was mending fences with creators who ended up coming back to DC I was hoping that he was going to be on the list but apparently it was not meant to be.
