The state of today's movie poster

Came across this:

It's kind of sad that movie posters are not really given any kind of thought, and no effort is made to create a piece of art that goes with the film.

I used to collect movie posters like crazy.
I don't anymore as I have no room to put them up anymore really as the walls are blocked by detolfs and such. LOL
So I just keep a few up now and I've burned out on some of the old standbys by now.

But yeah, the days of wonderful artwork for film posters appears well over.
I have noticed the boring sameness over the years.

One trick I did back in the day, is buy foreign posters of American films. Often the artwork was totally different and even better then what they chose for domestic release. Not sure if that is the case anymore.

But keep your eyes open.
For the final cut DVD release of Blade Runner they did some great stuff.

Nice insight on how designers/graphic artist use posters for advertising. i'm sure the reason they do that is because it's expected of them from the industry, which is repetitive and stale.

Yeah, very eye opening. I know subconsciously I had noticed this trend, but it's not until you see them altogether that it really hits home.
