Media room flooring

So I'm finishing my basement and building a media room/collectable room. Just about done with electrical and getting ready for drywall. So now the planning for flooring.

For those of you who have a room, is your flooring carpet, hardwood, or tile? For anyone who has hardwood or tile, do you have any issues with echoing? If you had to do it over would you do carpet?

For those of you with carpet, are you tired of cleaning the carpet (from spills, dirty shoes, etc). If you had it to do over would you do tile/hardwood?

Unless your basement is climate controlled like the rest of your house, i would not put hardwood down. You do not want to glue hardwood on top of a slab. You'll have to put down a vapor barrier, install sleeper's, shim and level it perfectly, then nail down the flooring. There is a system used to install hard wood flooring on a slab that involves metal tracks bolted to the slab and metal brackets that are slid onto the track so the wood and slab can expand with out tearing apart the wood. I've only seen it used in gym's.

Engineered/ floating floor would work as long as your basement does'nt take in water. I don't know the condition of your slab but tile would be the easiest labor wise.

If you want wood flooring, look at the linoleum faux wood flooring. I installed Amtico ($9 a sf ) that was left over from a jobsite in one of my bedrooms. Your slab has to be smooth like glass because the flooring's <1/8" thick.

I don't like carpet, but it's the least expensive to supply and install. As long as you don't buy some crazy expensive stuff.

That's an easy fix!
Just put in heated flooring. You can just turn it on when you feel cold.

I have replaced the carpets with wood.
Every night my robot vacuums the floor. I have very little dust left.
Wooden floors can also be easily wiped out with a wet cloth.
