That is likely the case. While I think we will see all the Amblin and WB properties, stuff like Star Wars is likely off the table. If the choices resonate as well as "Iron Giant", who wasn't in the book IIRC, seems to have the film will turn out fine.

The swap of 80's to the 00's may just help with how relevant some of the references are to a wider audience. Even I found myself a little lost with a few of the more dated ones in the book.

EDIT: Okay.... hold the #$%&ing phone! I made the last post based on recent comments and before I saw the trailer. The movie looks friggin epic!! Also, I don't see how the 80's are being sidelined when I see a Back to the Future Delorean, Freddy Krueger, and Shotaro Kaneda's Akira Bike!!! All to the tune of Rush's Tom Sawyer no less.

You're going to have to watch the movie ten times just to try and catch everything.

Already doing that with the trailer.

Just spotted Duke Nukem and the A-Team van. I still can't get over seeing Kaneda's bike though. Pure nerdgasm.

Believe me I want to. I just don't want the book to set any expectations for me. I've generally had better luck enjoying both a book and it's film adaptation if I see the movie first then read the book. It's tough though. I've been really close to just ordering the book.

Loved it. So many references and had the old Spielberg feel. Thumbs up. Great movie to a time I really miss. Well done.
