Your doubting it doesn't mean there isn't.
When I order a book from Amazon, chances are it'll arrive damaged as their packaging sucks or is plain non-existing - they just toss it in a box with no protection at all. One would think it wouldn't cost them that much more to spend a few more seconds and scarce more cents in stuffing material per package, and yet they don't, even though I'm sure they must have plenty of returns and refunds (I know I ask for them a lot). Why? Because it all adds up, and it obviously works out cheaper for them in the grand scheme of things.
Otherwise every statue company would be doing it. And, as you said, that's not the case.
