Butterfield is definitely my top pick of the current batch. Right age and height. And even has a bit of that Ditko inverted triangle head shape. If they pack 15 pounds of muscle on him he'll probably look perfect. The bigger question is his acting. He's a bit whiney sounding, which might not be a bad thing because he shouldn't be a deep-voiced adult. He was able to pull off awkward science nerd and tortured soul in Ender's Game. But that doesn't mean he doesn't also have the range to also do snappy, wisecracking Spider-Man.

I agree Garfield was well cast and very likable in the role. And I also really liked Emma Stone. But I much prefer the idea of a teenaged Spider-Man.

I would imagine the announcement will come any day now.

I also hope they go with a higher tech costume design more like this one.

Agreed...I thought Garfield was spot on as both Pete and as Spidey.

I liked Garfield, but Marvel clearly has plans to revisit/revise Spidey's movie origins based on the actors they're screening. Couldn't do it again with the same actor. Also, by having Garfield, would it make that ridiculous sequel canon to the MCU? Much easier to recast for the re-reboot.

I thought Garfield acted like he was on crack, and the thought of going with anything other than the real Spider-man costume is obscene.

I guess I don't know what someone who's on crack acts like, but I thought he was great. I agree with you on the Spidey costume though. I thought the last Spider Man film captured the best representation of the suit yet. And I also thought that Garfield's build was pretty much perfect in the suit. Asa Butterfield is incredibly skinny so he'll need to acquire at least some muscle if he's gonna play Spidey. Spider Man doesn't have big muscle's, but he should have a sinewy look to him.

What I meant was he was twitching and ticking like he was a tweaker.

Anyone else disappointed by the shortlist? Does not inspire confidence.

I am. The actors are al fine but I am put off by the choice to go with such a young Spidey in a high school setting. Reeks of a marketing and business first decision. IMHO college, or ideally post college 25-35, Peter lends himself to the most interesting storylines and character dynamics.
