Yep looks like they kept the ring glow.
It does look good. I hope the plastic of the GL logo is easily broken...or ideally removable. I would like to take that off and have just a plain black base to go with the rest of the JL

That's totally subjective. You might think it'd look dumb ...but others may not.
In any case, it's not an extra charge to have the emblem that way, so who cares. As long as you can orient the emblem the way you like it ...no biggie.
