Yes, nothing ever indicated that SB was racist. He was on a team with Noir and he even mentioned Bill Cosby being a great drink maker. The only jokes SB made were about being manly. I guess the writers just decided to retcon SB being the one who killed MM's grandpa for some reason.
The ending was absolutely terrible. They had Homelander dead to rights. Ryan (who is invincible) gets hit by SB after lasering him. Then the whole team turns on SB. Nothing since the end of Season 1 has been resolved.

i'm fine with SB having killed MM's gramps and him being justifiably pissed by it, but the way he described it was just another case of supes being careless and causing collateral damage, nothing race based about it.
i was really hoping SB would be an actual hero, the whole "every supe is a piece of crap" thing has warn a little thin. but even with his flaws he seemed like a decent person at the end of the day, his quest for vengeance was 100% justified in my eyes since he went through hell because of Payback. and in several of his heart to heart talks he never seemed like the heartless psycho that Homelander is, so he is clearly the lesser evil no matter how you slice it.

Good lord, my buddies keep telling me to give this series a try. It’s sounding less and less appealing now.

it's a great show, i've enjoyed all of it so far. it's just that when characters make incomprehensible decisions in the 11th hour that goes against just about everything else, they have done it's noticeable and the finale was very noticeably moronic of them

I think this is the best super hero show of the past five years. Says something given I typically am not a fan of dark or cynical takes, but it definitely keeps me engaged.

Soldier Boy, to me, represents when someone is never checked and lives a long time. I'm not sure they specified, but he was born in Pennsylvania around...1910s given he was an adult with powers during the second world war.
Anyone born like that would likely have attitudes that get increasingly out of line with newer generational societal norms. You could be as lefty as possible back then and still be various "ists" or "phobic" of groups.
Soldier Boy never has to reflect and bullies his position to keep people in line and beneath them. He ran the super hero world for five decades before being put away for three. In many respects the modern Vought and Homelander are byproducts of his legacy.
In terms of the season I really enjoyed it even if a degree of "plot armor" came into play. If the show is ending with season 5 as they say I hope we get a run in with big consequences and stakes.
Side note: Is the seven now...the three? Been a rough few years for that team.

yeah, just Homie, Deep and A-Train left. going to have to have a lot of reality shows to fill out the roster now.

Loved it but the end made no sense.
They had two supes who they hate and want to stop.
One that they just can't kill, and another that they know how to at least stop. The one that they know how to stop can help them kill the other but they decide to turn on him first?!? Total bollocks!

But I still can?t figure out why any of them aside from MM hate SB. I guess Starlight because she?s been made extra stupid this season, but Huey knows the truth that he isn?t just going around killing innocent people on purpose and just never brings it up, Butcher just got turned into the dumbest man on the planet because his wife?s take baby got pushed and Maeve, well at least Maeve tried.
