Really Jono? I'm surprised by that!
Ash and I had a great discussion after finishing the first, I'm gonna have to PM him soon when he knocks over the second.
I did think the first stalled at times, a couple of chapters were very laborious, and my thinking is that Del Toro's "contribution" was more in the descriptive side of the nasties, but I still enjoyed it enough to commit to the trilogy

I thought it was very Blade 2ish which makes a lot of sense.
I thought it was a great start to the trilogy building up to a Vampire Apocalypse

I'm not a fan of horror novels, and freely admit that I bought the book as I wanted to meet GDT and get my copy of Pan's Labyrinth signed. The book was a condition of the signing, otherwise I wouldn't have picked it up.
I suppose that as to some extent I had been "compelled" to buy the book, and I'm not a fan of the genre, I found myself a somewhat reluctant reader. That never really bodes well for a book's enjoyment ....

Finished Dune, which was enjoyable, despite containing quite a lot of twaddle. Anyone read any of the other books in the series?

Finished The Courtship of Princess Lei and I, Jedi a couple of weeks ago.
Just finished Tina Fey's book Bossypants. Haven't decided what to read next.

I just finished Bossypants too. It wasn't great. Now I'm on the Dead Zone by King. Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job is next.

Of Frank Herbert's original series, the first three, Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune, were great. God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune were interesting but too convoluted. Frank died before writing a planned seventh book, so the original series doesn't have a conclusion.
And please, whatever you do, don't bother with Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's series of books.
