Season of the Witch - 3/10 I have no idea why I gave it a 3... just avoid it.
Tangled - 8/10....a pretty decent cartoon....stabbing from a Disney? surprised to see there...
A Better Tomorrow (Korean) - 4/10... weak copy of the original Chinese version.

SBS is still our most interesting channel but it was even better before the new management took over. He kicked out the presenters and brought on the ads.

The presentation of the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday night movies when Des Mangan/David Stratton/Margaret Pomeranz were still employed solidified SBS's position as the place to be for movies, in terms of quality and quantity. There was stuff on the other nights too but those days were the most reliable. They still screen good movies but sometimes weeks can go by with there only being a couple of worthwhile movies on, ....look back a bit and you could be guaranteed at least a couple of awesome movies a week, and often several. Maybe a HK action classic like Tiger Cage 2 or something by Woo or JC, plus an Almodovar and a Dogma film. Erotic Ghost Story and The Scent of Papaya, Shanghai Grand and Vacant Possession. The Estruscan Kills Again! Hell, I still have most of my VHS tapes containing this stuff from the time, and they're worth hanging onto, sometimes for the excellent subtitling job alone.

I like SBS.

I just remembered this and I wouldn't call it a "spoiler" but there is this funny part where Antonio can barely lift a full sized viking broad sword so he has a smaller, curved, Bandares sized scimitar made and he is swinging it around trying to show off and one of the vikings says something like "After they kill you can I have it? I want to give it to my daughter"

Two Evil Eyes 7/10
Romero & Argento get together for a Poe inspired anthology. Overlong at 1hr per segment and neither story is amongst the respective director's top tier (though the Argento delivers a lot more bang for buck than the Romero) work but it's still good. BU BD is excellent and the ported over restrospective documentary from the dvd, including fun vintage behind the scenes footage, was good to see again too.

The Stendhal Syndrome 10/10
another excellent BU BD that blows even the best dvd release out of the water. Noticeable improvement in detail, colours and plenty grainy (a good thing). The film itself is underrated; an absorbing character study/thriller that is intense, fast paced and brutal, and the titular syndrome makes for some stunning surreal sequences - and that's just the first two thirds, before heading into 60s Polanski-style territory. The obvious passion for the subject matter and unique style lacking from more recent Argento efforts like Card Player and (especially) Giallo is in force here. Asia is compelling to watch, dp Giuseppe Rotunno and composer Morricone do superb work. What's not to like?

The New York Ripper 10/10
"Sweetheart, I'm a prostitute, not your wife. You want coffee, you make it yourself"....quacking killer with a bizarre motive, red herrings, stylish visuals, gory murders (or "moiders"), a standout film in the giallo genre by Fulci, presented on another great Blue Underground bluray

The Adjustment Bureau - 4.5/10

Had some time to kill today so I hit the cinema. What a waste of 2 hrs. I figured being based off a Philip K. Dick short story and after seeing the trailer this would have a sci-fi angle to it but I was wrong. Nothing of the sort. This is basically a 1/2 hr. Twilight Zone style love story stretched to 110 minutes. Simplistic, completely unoriginal and lacking the tension necessary to make a story like this work.

Just watched Taking Chance - 10/10. Excellent heartwarming tribute.
