The Amazing Spider-Man - 9/10

This is the Spider-Man movie I've been waiting for. The tone was practically perfect for the character. Fun, adventurous, whimsical, funny, and yet it's infused with tragedy. All of that describes the Spider-Man comics for me, and it's all found in this movie as well.

While I enjoyed the Raimi films, I still felt they left a lot to be desired. The costume, acrobatics, special effects, and even most of the events that take place were adapted pretty well to the big screen. However I never bought Maguier as Spider-Man, didn't like (borderline hated) Dunst as MJ, and all three of those films had too much camp for my taste.

For me, all of that is remedied in this latest adaptation. Garfield is as good as it gets as Parker AND Spider-Man (hope we see more wise cracking in the sequels, something Maguire couldn't do). Stone was excellent as Gwen (great choice to introduce her first). And finally, no campiness. The material was given the seriousness (not too much) and complexity it deserves. This isn't to say the studio took the "let's make it dark like Dark Knight" approach (at least I don't think that was their intent, cuz I didn't get that vibe at all), but gave the whole movie a more approachable and more relatable tone and story.

One of the reasons Spider-Man works as a character is because readers can relate to him and his dilemmas. No we can't climb walls or shoot webs, but we all try to juggle a lot in our every day lives. We're not all rich, a lot of us have to work harder than others. A lot of us have faced personal tragedy and we have to find a way to continue. We all have a lot of responsibilities, and sometimes it seems like it's too much. That is Spider-Man in a nutshell. This film does an excellent job of portraying all of that.

If Marvel wasn't so stupid as to sell off the rights. They only have themselves to blame. And if they did have the rights back when would they get around to making a movie? They are struggling to get two movies a year. We would be looking at 2015 at the earliest. If Sony make ASM 2 as good as ASM 1 I'll be happy.

TED - 6/10. Some serious shock value and laugh out loud moments, but a renter for sure.

Brave 8.5/10 gorgeous to look at, the father was great, not my favorite Pixar but definitely not the worst, still can't stand the 2 cars movies.

Wrath of the Titans 8/10

Macgruber 6.5/10 had some funny parts, but pretty corny

Adjustment Bureau 6.5/10 Was expecting a bit more

The Dead 6/10 An interesting enough zombie movie, but not one I think I'd see again.
