Mine was heading out solo when then wife and kids were away to see TDKR for the 4th and final time in Imax. It was almost a month after opening so I thought I would have theater to myself.... had to settle for one of the 6 reminding seats despite being there an hour early

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Soundtrack Released on Cassette Tape

Full article:

"As successful as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ was at the box-office (and, as the highest-grossing film of the year, it certainly was that), the film’s iconic soundtrack was equally as successful. “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and is currently the 10th largest selling album of 2014. You’ve been able to buy the digital album, the CD, vinyl and even a “Deluxe Edition,” but so far, no actual cassette like the mix tape in the film. But, that’s all about to change.

Marvel and Hollywood Records announced that a limited edition ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 Soundtrack’ will be finally issued on cassette November 17. The cassette will be made available only to independent retailers partnered with Record Store Day (get a list of participating stores here). The cassette, which is the first audio cassette Disney has released since 2003, will only be available until December 31, or until supplies last. (It’s unclear how many copies Disney will print.)

The release of ‘Awesome Mix Vol. 1′ on cassette times nicely with the release of the DVD and Blu-ray on December 9, and, of course, the holiday season.

The cassette will even come with the classic mix tape cover art, with all the song titles written in pen.

Just as a refresher, here’s the track listing for the soundtrack:

1. Blue Swede – “Hooked on a Feeling”
2. Raspberries – “Go All the Way”
3. Norman Greenbaum – “Spirit in the Sky”
4. David Bowie – “Moonage Daydream”
5. Elvin Bishop – “Fooled Around and Fell in Love”
6. 10cc – “I’m Not in Love”
7. Jackson 5 – “I Want You Back”
8. Redbone – “Come and Get Your Love”
9. The Runaways – “Cherry Bomb”
10. Rupert Holmes – “Escape (the Pina Colada Song)”
11. The Five Stairsteps – “O-O-H Child”
12. Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell – “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”

Director James Gunn has confirmed he’s already thinking about “Awesome Mix Vol. 2″ which will be included in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2‘ opening on July 27, 2017."

This sounds good and all; but who has a cassette player nowadays? I haven't seen a Walkman or a stereo system with tape decks in years!

I need to dig around to check if I still have my tape recorder and see if it's working. But I will be buying the tape mostly as a novelty piece/collectible, it's pretty much a prop replica I want to own.

I got the Orb replica last week.

I have three working cassette decks in my home and a functioning walkman in the bottom of my drawer at work.
