I'm inclined to agree. My opinion on this piece has significantly sweetened since receiving it. I still think the details could be finer and the belly darkened, but the overall feel of the piece is head and shoulders above the other Rexes I've seen. It just looks so natural. The skin folds around the hips and neck, the pink tones around the underside, not to mention the lumbering pose make this feel like a real animal rather than an idealized movie sculpture. I suppose it also helps that my display area has warm, low lighting so that super-bright belly is less offensive.
There are 15 year-old statues in this hobby with imperfect paint apps or soft sculpts that still evoke the spirit of the characters better than any of the hyper-detailed stuff that's out today. It would be nice if this Rex had those high fidelity details as well (seeing as it's 2023 and not 2008), but its personality alone makes it a winner for me. I can't deny it looks fantastic on display. Not gimmicky or contrived for our benefit, just a classy piece that looks like it's about to walk off the shelf and do its own thing.
I'd still probably sell it if ECC makes a great Buck (I have no need for two Rexes), but if that doesn't happen, I'd be more than happy to be left with this one.
